Flagstaff Hill

Flagstaff Hill rises across Schenley Drive from Phipps and southeast of Schenley Plaza. Use the exact hill pin rather than routing to the Oval or Panther Hollow Lake.

Use legal spaces along Schenley Drive and the Phipps area, honoring meters, bike-lane markings and event restrictions. Phipps visitor spaces are intended for conservatory guests, not an all-day hill visit.

Use the open hill during posted City park hours. Films, festivals, university events, snow conditions and maintenance can create separate access or crowd controls.

There is no dependable dedicated restroom on the hill. Phipps restrooms require admission and follow conservatory hours; plan another open facility before arriving.

Ordinary hill, picnic and skyline-view access is free. Permitted events, food and nearby attractions may charge separately.

The defining lawn is sloped and grassy. Paved roadside viewpoints may provide partial context, but the hill itself is not a level or uniformly firm destination.

Leashed dogs may use the open hill under City rules. Avoid event-controlled areas and clean up waste on the heavily shared lawn.

The skyline, open grass and proximity to Phipps make a flexible family stop. Supervise children beside Schenley Drive and on the steep slope, especially during snow or crowded events.

Bring shade and water in summer and traction in winter. The open slope is exposed to sun, wind, lightning and snow, and event programming can replace normal informal use.

Frequent buses serve Oakland and Schenley Plaza; lower areas require a downhill walk and uphill return.
