Point State Park Fountain

The fountain is at the far western tip of the park where the Allegheny and Monongahela form the Ohio River. Enter from Commonwealth Place and continue beyond the Portal Bridge, museum, Block House and main lawn; the fountain pin is not the vehicle entrance or parking lot.

Use the paid Commonwealth Place lot, limited legal meters or a downtown garage, then walk through the park. There is no fountain-side visitor parking, and major events can close the lot or control the final approach.

The surrounding park is open sunrise to sunset. DCNR turned the fountain on April 8 for the 2026 season after completing upgrades, but water operation remains separate from park access and can pause for weather, maintenance, water conditions or events.

The official park map places modern restrooms and potable water near the entrance and park office, not at the fountain tip. Use those facilities before crossing the lawn and do not assume the concession or museum will be open.

Viewing the fountain and confluence is free, and Pennsylvania state parks have no day-use admission fee. Parking, food, museum admission and special events may cost separately.

DCNR identifies the paved riverfront promenades and overlooks as accessible. The route from the entrance to the fountain is firm and largely level, but it is an exposed walk and temporary event barriers can alter the path.

Physically controlled pets may use open state-park day-use areas unless posted closed. Keep pets out of the fountain basin, clean up waste and avoid building interiors; ordinary pets are not admitted inside park buildings.

The spray and river traffic are visually engaging, but the fountain is ornamental rather than a splash pad. Supervise children beside the basin and three active rivers, and plan shade, water and a restroom stop before the exposed final lawn.

Do not plan on entering the fountain basin or treating it as water play. Confirm same-day DCNR alerts and fountain operation, especially during storms, maintenance or large downtown events.

The T light-rail system is free within Downtown and the North Shore, and downtown buses stop within walking distance. The Three Rivers Heritage Trail and Great Allegheny Passage also reach the park, making transit or walking useful during major events.
