Fort Pitt Museum

Enter Point State Park from Commonwealth Place and cross beneath the Portal Bridge. The museum is the staffed building near the park entrance, opposite the Block House; it is well before the fountain at the western tip.

The museum owns no parking lot. Its operator lists the paid Boulos lot, metered spaces and several downtown garages, all requiring a walk; route to Point State Park's Commonwealth Place entrance rather than trying to drive to the museum door.

Regular museum hours are daily 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. It closes on New Year's Day, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas, and major Point State Park events can add date-specific closures; verify the operator calendar before leaving.

An accessible restroom is on the museum's first floor and is available during admission hours. Do not rely on it before the museum opens or after it closes; the park also has separate modern restrooms near the entrance.

Current general admission is $10 for adults, $8 for ages 65+, and $6 for students with valid school ID. Visitors 17 and under are free but still need tickets; members are free and military, RAD Pass and combination-ticket programs have separate terms.

The entrance has an ADA push-button opener, galleries are wheelchair accessible, an elevator connects floors, videos include captions and an accessible restroom is on the first floor. A manual wheelchair and sensory bags are available first-come.

Ordinary pets and emotional-support animals are not admitted. ADA-defined service animals are welcome and must remain under control.

Children 17 and under receive free general admission but still need tickets. Interactive exhibits, artifacts and seasonal living-history demonstrations can pair well with the outdoor fort outlines; check event times and allow for security or crowd controls.

The museum has its own ticket, holiday and event-closure rules even when the park is open. Reserve tickets when timing matters and check the operator notice before a major downtown event.

The T light-rail system is free within Downtown and the North Shore, and downtown buses stop within walking distance. The Three Rivers Heritage Trail and Great Allegheny Passage also reach the park, making transit or walking useful during major events.
