Fort Pitt Block House

Enter Point State Park from Commonwealth Place and pass beneath the Portal Bridge. The Block House is directly across from Fort Pitt Museum and close to the entrance-side fort grounds; it is not at the fountain tip.

Use the same paid Commonwealth Place lot, legal meters or downtown garages used for Point State Park. The site is reached on foot beyond the Portal Bridge and has no dedicated visitor parking at the building.

From April 1 through October 31, it is open Wednesday-Saturday 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. From November 1 through March 31, it is open Friday-Saturday 10:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Hours are subject to change and group tours can require arrangements.

The operator does not document a dedicated public restroom inside this small historic building. Use Point State Park's modern restroom near the entrance, or Fort Pitt Museum only during its ticketed operating hours.

Admission is free. Tours, group arrangements, souvenirs and donations are separate, and parking still costs unless arriving by transit, walking or bicycle.

The surrounding memorial garden has wide paths and seating, but this is a compact 1764 structure and the upstairs is closed for preservation and safety. Contact the operator before visiting when step-free entry, turning space or another accommodation is essential.

State-park rules permit physically controlled pets in open day-use areas but prohibit ordinary pets inside buildings. Keep pets outside the historic structure and contact the operator directly about service-animal or accommodation needs.

The free site is small enough for a short family stop and includes exhibits, digital presentations and a reconstructed firing step. The historic interior and original fabric require close supervision, and the second floor is not open to visitors.

The Block House is free but not open daily. Check the seasonal Wednesday-Saturday or Friday-Saturday schedule before crossing the park, and do not assume its hours match Fort Pitt Museum or the outdoor grounds.

The T light-rail system is free within Downtown and the North Shore, and downtown buses stop within walking distance. The Three Rivers Heritage Trail and Great Allegheny Passage also reach the park, making transit or walking useful during major events.
