Point State Park

Park grounds are open every day of the year from sunrise to sunset, and day-use areas close at dusk. The paid Commonwealth Place lot operates 6:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m.; the museum, Block House, fountain, concession and events keep separate schedules.

The operator-managed lot along Commonwealth Place charges a fee and has a separate 6:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m. schedule. Limited metered parking and a visitor drop-off are near the entrance, while downtown garages provide alternatives; major events can close or reprice roads and parking.

For a first visit, enter from Commonwealth Place, cross beneath the Portal Bridge, then choose the museum and Block House near the entrance or continue west across the lawn to the fountain and river confluence. Do not navigate only to the fountain if you need parking or indoor facilities.

DCNR documents modern restrooms and potable water as trailhead amenities inside the park, and the official map places them near the entrance and park office rather than at the fountain tip. Fort Pitt Museum also has an accessible first-floor restroom during admission hours.

Pennsylvania state parks charge no entrance or day-use fee. The grounds, fountain, fort outlines and Fort Pitt Block House are free; parking and Fort Pitt Museum admission cost separately, and food or events may add charges.

DCNR identifies the riverfront promenades, overlooks, amphitheaters and fishing access as accessible. The main routes are paved, but event fencing, crowds, weather and maintenance can alter circulation; the museum has an automatic entrance, elevator and accessible first-floor restroom.

Pets are permitted in state-park day-use areas unless posted closed, but they must remain physically controlled and attended. Ordinary pets may not enter park buildings or museums; ADA-defined service animals are welcomed by Fort Pitt Museum.

The fountain, river traffic, fort footprints and free Block House make a flexible outdoor family visit. The museum adds indoor exhibits and children ages 17 and under receive free general admission but still need tickets; supervise closely beside the rivers and fountain basin.

The T light-rail system is free within Downtown and the North Shore, and downtown buses stop within walking distance. The Three Rivers Heritage Trail and Great Allegheny Passage also reach the park, making transit or walking useful during major events.

Large events can fully close or reconfigure the park, lot and riverfront paths. The fountain is ornamental and not a splash pad or swimming area; verify DCNR alerts, fountain operation, museum tickets and Block House hours before relying on a specific facility.

Check Pittsburgh weather, air quality, river levels and operator alerts. Steep trails, pools, spray parks, fountains, docks and events can close independently.
