Highland Park Reservoir Loop

The loop encircles Reservoir No. 1 uphill from the Highland Avenue fountain. Navigate to the exact reservoir pin and choose a legal Reservoir Drive arrival; the zoo entrance, pool and cycling track are separate destinations on other park edges.

Use legal spaces around Reservoir Drive and obey temporary event, maintenance and snow restrictions. Parking is distributed rather than concentrated in one trailhead lot, so avoid blocking gates or water-system access.

Use the loop during posted park hours and favor daylight. Water-system work, storms, ice, snow, event setup or maintenance can close or redirect sections independently of the wider park.

There is no dependable staffed restroom on the reservoir circuit. Plan around an open recreation facility before starting; the pool and zoo have separate access rules and schedules.

Walking and viewing the reservoir are free. Reserved events, food, pool use and zoo admission are separate.

Reservoir Drive improvements included repaving, traffic calming and accessibility work. The circuit is paved, but approaches climb from Highland Avenue and construction, ice or temporary barriers can affect a fully step-free trip.

Leashed dogs may use open outdoor paths under City rules. Keep pets out of the fenced reservoir and water, yield on the shared loop and clean up waste.

The loop can work for walking families who are prepared for sun, distance and the uphill approach. It is not a splash pad, swimming lake or staffed children's facility, so bring water and plan a restroom first.

Reservoir No. 1 is drinking-water infrastructure. Stay behind barriers, never enter the water, and check City event and project notices because concerts, movies or maintenance can change Reservoir Drive circulation.

Pittsburgh Regional Transit serves Highland Avenue and the zoo area, but stops are not interchangeable across this large hillside park. Plan the final walking grade to the garden, reservoir, pool or Baker Street zoo entrance before choosing a route.
