Walnut Street Trail Hub and Dock

Descend from Walnut Street to the east-bank trail and look just south of the bridge for the restroom and dock area. This is north of the Boardwalk's Locust Street over-water section.

There is no dedicated dock lot. Use a paid garage, legal meter or transit near Walnut Street and allow extra time to bring nonmotorized equipment down the approved approach without blocking the trail.

The trail follows dawn-to-dusk use. The restroom is normally 9 a.m.-5 p.m. subject to staffing; the dock gate is opened by staff only when no scheduled program is using it, and guided tours follow reserved departure times.

A staffed public restroom sits just south of Walnut Street and is normally open daily from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., subject to staff availability. Use it before a tour because outdoor access does not guarantee the building is open.

Trail and restroom access are free. Guided kayak and riverboat programs have separate reservations and prices; bringing a small nonmotorized craft does not create unlimited dock access.

The paved trail reaches the hub, but the dock and watercraft transfer are separate physical tasks. Contact the program operator before booking for boarding, transfer or adaptive-paddling requirements.

Short-leashed dogs may use the trail but are not automatically accepted on tours, at the gated dock or in watercraft. Keep pets clear of loading activity and moving bicycles.

The restroom and central access make this a practical family meeting point. Guided kayak participants must be at least 12; anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult, and the operator asks guests to arrive 15 minutes early.

There is no public motorized launch. When the dock is not reserved, staff may permit small-watercraft use for up to 30 minutes while users remain in sight; never climb a locked gate or assume access without staff.

Center City buses, trolleys, Regional Rail and 30th Street Station can reach central access points on foot. Choose transit for the exact segment: Walnut and Locust differ from Water Works, Grays Ferry and Bartram's Mile, and the return trip may not end where it began.
