South Street Bridge Trail Ramp

Use the northeast corner of the South Street Bridge and follow the signed ramp down to the trail. Do not navigate to the west bank or the bridge midpoint when seeking the Boardwalk connection.

The ramp has no parking. Use transit, walk from nearby neighborhoods or select legal paid parking before arrival; do not stop on the bridge or block the ramp for loading.

Use the ramp during trail hours from dawn to dusk. Maintenance, ice, flooding or bridge work can close the connection independently; follow any signed alternate rather than using stairs or a work zone.

There is no restroom at the ramp. The documented Schuylkill Banks restroom is farther north just south of Walnut Street and normally operates 9 a.m.-5 p.m. subject to staff availability.

The ramp, Boardwalk and trail are free. Parking and any reserved programs are separate.

The operator identifies this as an ADA-accessible ramp. Its long slope, turns, mixed users and weather exposure still matter; check for closures and allow others room to pass.

Leashed dogs may use the ramp, but keep them close at switchbacks and away from bicycle wheels. Off-leash use is not allowed.

The ramp is a useful stroller approach to the Boardwalk. Keep children to one side through turns and away from the bridge roadway and river edge.

Walk your bicycle on the ramp. Riders mounting on the slope create conflicts at narrow turns; remount only after reaching the main trail and checking for approaching traffic.

Center City buses, trolleys, Regional Rail and 30th Street Station can reach central access points on foot. Choose transit for the exact segment: Walnut and Locust differ from Water Works, Grays Ferry and Bartram's Mile, and the return trip may not end where it began.
