Schuylkill Banks Boardwalk

Approach from Locust Street at the north end or the South Street Bridge ramp at the south end. Walnut Street is the more useful central arrival when a restroom or staffed dock matters.

The Boardwalk has no lot. Choose a paid Center City garage or legal meter near Walnut, Locust or South Street before driving; the official map identifies options, and event or construction conditions can change the closest route.

Use the Boardwalk during trail hours from dawn to dusk. It may close independently for flooding, ice, repairs or work beneath nearby bridges even when other Schuylkill Banks sections remain open.

The nearest documented public facility is on the trail just south of Walnut Street, normally open daily from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. subject to staff availability. There is no restroom on the over-water span.

Walking, running, cycling and overlook use are free. Parking, tours, food and special programs cost separately.

The Boardwalk is a developed 15-foot-wide path with four widened overlooks. Approaches are paved, but mixed traffic, temporary barriers, wet surfaces, ice and crowds can reduce maneuvering space.

Leashed dogs may use the Boardwalk under the six-foot City rule; keep the leash short and the animal out of bicycle and running traffic. Off-leash use is not allowed here.

The skyline and river overlooks make a memorable short family route. Keep children beside an adult rather than spread across the travel lane, and supervise continuously at the open river edge.

This is a transportation path as well as an overlook. Keep right, step fully into a widened area before stopping, pass only when clear and never bypass a closure barrier over the river.

Center City buses, trolleys, Regional Rail and 30th Street Station can reach central access points on foot. Choose transit for the exact segment: Walnut and Locust differ from Water Works, Grays Ferry and Bartram's Mile, and the return trip may not end where it began.
