Brandywine Falls

Use the official Brandywine Falls Trailhead at 8176 Brandywine Road. The upper viewpoint is reached by boardwalk from the lot; the lower deck requires roughly 80 stairs, and the gorge loop continues beyond the short viewpoint route.

The official paved lot has 90 spaces and often fills by 10:00 a.m. on pleasant weekends. Arrive early, use only legal spaces and have another park stop ready rather than parking along restricted roads.

Brandywine Falls closes at dusk even though most of the national park is open 24 hours. Posted gates, weather, ice and emergency closures take priority.

The trailhead has accessible flush restrooms, a baby-changing station and drinking-water facilities. Seasonal repairs can affect individual fixtures, so check current conditions before relying on them.

The national park and Brandywine Falls trailhead are free and require no entry reservation. Permitted events and neighboring services can charge separately.

A boardwalk leads to the accessible upper viewing area. The lower deck requires about 80 steps; visitors who need a step-free experience should use the upper view and review the NPS mobility information before leaving.

Leashed pets are allowed on park trails with a leash six feet or shorter. Keep pets on the boardwalk, clean up waste and avoid crowded edges; only service animals may enter park buildings.

The short upper-boardwalk option works well for families, and the trailhead has restrooms and picnic tables. Hold children close at railings and never climb fences, rocks or the falls.

Crowding and fall parking are the main planning problems. Arrive before 10:00 a.m. on fair-weather weekends, stay at least 50 feet from the top and bottom of the falls, and never leave the boardwalk or climb barriers for a photo.

The park is spread across a large valley. Seasonal railroad and limited regional options exist, but most visitors drive or bicycle between selected stops.
