Frick Park

City parks normally operate 6:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m., although unlighted facilities and natural trails can close at sunset or under posted conditions. The Frick Environmental Center's published building schedule is Monday-Friday 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Saturday 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. and Sunday noon-5:00 p.m.; verify same-day building and event notices.

Do not navigate only to the broad park pin. The Environmental Center has its own parking at 2005 Beechwood Boulevard; Blue Slide uses the 2466 Beechwood Boulevard and English Lane approach; Forbes and Braddock serve the playground, fields and red-clay courts; Nine Mile Run uses Commercial Street or Duck Hollow arrival areas. Construction can close trail lots and change through-routes.

Start at the Environmental Center for maps, bathrooms, water and a gentler developed introduction. Use Blue Slide's Beechwood Boulevard entrance for the iconic hillside playground, and use the exact Nine Mile Run destination only after checking the active Commercial Street Bridge project detours.

The most dependable documented restrooms and water fountains are at the Frick Environmental Center during building hours. City recreation buildings and portable toilets near Blue Slide or fields are not guaranteed daily; use a confirmed facility before entering the ravines or Nine Mile Run corridor.

Park grounds, trails, playgrounds, the designated dog area and ordinary Environmental Center access are free. Classes, camps, private rentals, permits and reserved recreation may charge separately.

The Environmental Center provides the strongest developed arrival with parking, bathrooms and firm routes, but the park's ravines include steep grades, mud, roots, gravel and uneven trail surfaces. A 2026 City project is separately evaluating Environmental Center ADA upgrades, so check posted routing when step-free access is essential.

Dogs must remain leashed except inside the signed Upper Frick Off-Leash Exercise Area. Dogs are prohibited from playgrounds and courts; keep them on marked routes and out of sensitive restoration habitat.

For a first family visit, pair the Environmental Center with a short nearby nature route or go directly to Blue Slide Playground at the Beechwood Boulevard and Nicholson Street side. The Environmental Center has bathrooms and water; ravine and Nine Mile Run trips require trail footwear, close supervision and a return climb.

The Environmental Center guide identifies bus 65 at Darlington and Beechwood and routes 61A and 61B at Forbes and Dallas. Choose transit for the intended park edge because Blue Slide, Forbes and Braddock, the Environmental Center and Nine Mile Run are not one compact arrival area.

Download the official Frick map before entering the ravines. The Commercial Street Bridge replacement is actively affecting Nine Mile Run access in 2026, including closures between trail parking areas; check PennDOT and posted detours before planning a through-walk or ride. Trails can also become muddy, icy or flood-prone after weather.

Check Pittsburgh weather, air quality, river levels and operator alerts. Steep trails, pools, spray parks, fountains, docks and events can close independently.
