Emerald View Park

City park hours are 6:00 a.m. to sunset in unlighted areas and until 11:00 p.m. in lighted areas unless posted otherwise. Use natural trails in daylight, and check each pool, shelter, event or recreation facility separately.

There is no single Emerald View lot. Match the arrival to the destination: legal curb parking along Grandview Avenue for overlooks, Bailey Avenue for Grandview Park, Virginia and Olympia Streets for Olympia Park, or the exact signed trailhead. Never park on lawns or service roads.

First choose the experience. Point of View Park is the western Grandview Avenue vista and sculpture stop; Grandview Park is the Bailey Avenue playground and bandstand area; Olympia, Mt. Washington, Ream, Bigbee Field and Eileen McCoy are separate neighborhood arrivals; hiking requires a named trailhead.

Do not assume a restroom at an overlook or trailhead. Restrooms belong to particular staffed, seasonal or permitted facilities, and may be locked when that facility is closed. Confirm an open facility before beginning a longer hillside walk.

Open overlooks, trails, playgrounds, fields and ordinary park areas are free. Pools, shelter reservations, concessions and some permitted programs use separate schedules or fees.

Grandview Avenue sidewalks and developed overlooks provide the firmest scenic approach, but curb conditions, grades and individual overlook design vary. Woodland trails are gravel or dirt, narrow in places and can be steep, muddy or uneven; choose an exact developed destination when step-free access matters.

Dogs must remain leashed except inside a signed off-leash exercise area. The City lists a year-round off-leash area at Olympia Park; dogs are not allowed in playgrounds or courts.

For the simplest family stop, use a developed neighborhood park such as Grandview, Olympia, Ream or Eileen McCoy rather than beginning on an unnamed hillside path. The trail network calls for sturdy shoes, water, weather awareness and close supervision near steep slopes.

Mount Washington buses and the inclines can reduce driving, but they do not deliver visitors to every park component. Check the final uphill or downhill walk to the exact overlook, neighborhood park or trailhead before selecting a stop.

Emerald View is a network, not one contiguous lawn or one parking destination. Current City work includes Greenleaf and Sycamore parking areas, Republic, Bigbee Field, Hallock and Greenleaf/Horner trailheads, and Greenleaf/Emerald View trail segments; obey closures and posted detours and verify conditions before a trail-focused visit.

Check Pittsburgh weather, air quality, river levels and operator alerts. Steep trails, pools, spray parks, fountains, docks and events can close independently.
