Thomas Mill Covered Bridge

The bridge crosses Wissahickon Creek near Forbidden Drive in the northern valley. Use the official park map to choose a trailhead and approach on foot, bicycle or permitted horse; the landmark is not a public motor-vehicle crossing.

There is no dedicated visitor lot at the bridge. Choose a legal mapped trailhead for the northern park, keep emergency routes clear and calculate the walk from that exact entrance before leaving.

Reach the bridge during daylight trail hours. High water, ice, fallen trees or trail work can affect the approach independently of the broader park curfew.

There is no public restroom at the bridge. Identify a permanent restroom at the Environmental Center, Kitchen's Lane or Valley Green before beginning the hike.

Viewing and crossing the bridge as part of a normal trail visit is free. Bicycle and equestrian permit rules may apply on connecting Upper Wissahickon soft trails.

The bridge is a trail landmark with gravel and natural-surface approaches; route and grade depend on the selected trailhead. Do not assume a step-free approach based only on the bridge deck.

Leashed dogs may use the trail and bridge under the City's six-foot rule. Yield at the narrow covered span and keep pets away from horses and the creek edge.

The red bridge makes a rewarding family landmark if the selected hike matches children's distance and terrain ability. Bring water, identify a restroom first and supervise at the creek.

Download the map and choose the complete out-and-back route before starting. The nearby historic fountain is sealed and is not a drinking-water source.

SEPTA buses and regional rail serve several park edges. The Wissahickon Transportation Center is across Ridge Avenue from the southern trail entrance, while other bus and rail stops require a walk to a specific trailhead; route to the selected entrance, not the park center.
