President's House Site

The exhibit is immediately beside the Liberty Bell Center at the corner of 6th and Market. Enter from either street; it is outside security and separate from the Visitor Center across Market.

Use the paid AutoPark beneath the Visitor Center or transit. There is no exhibit-specific parking, and stopping at the busy Market Street corner is not a dependable drop-off plan.

Open daily 7 a.m.-10 p.m. year round as a self-guided outdoor exhibit. Snow, severe weather, maintenance or special security operations can still restrict access.

There is no restroom at the outdoor exhibit. The closest reliable option is inside the Independence Visitor Center during its operating hours.

Admission is free and no ticket or reservation is required. Visitors explore at their own pace outside the Liberty Bell security line.

The site is wheelchair accessible and the videos are open-captioned. Wet or icy paving, glare on screens and outdoor noise can affect the experience.

Leashed pets may accompany visitors outdoors under the six-foot NPS rule; keep them controlled around exhibits and other visitors. Service-animal access also applies.

The visible foundations and short media segments can support a meaningful family conversation, but the material directly addresses slavery and deserves unhurried adult context.

Do not treat this as overflow space for the Liberty Bell line. The exhibit centers the nine people enslaved in Washington's household and the contradiction between liberty and slavery; read and listen respectfully.

SEPTA's 5th Street/Independence Hall station is beside the Visitor Center and Liberty Bell area, and PATCO's 8th & Market station is a short walk west. The historic district is compact, so choose one arrival point and walk between most major sites rather than moving a car.
