Lake Roland Park

Park grounds are open daily until sunset, when gates are locked. The Lake Roland Nature Council currently lists the Nature Center daily from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., closed on county-observed holidays; programs and individual facilities vary.

Free parking is available at the Lakeside Drive lot and the Falls Road Light Rail lot. The light-rail lot connects to the park by a roughly 0.3-mile boardwalk and can be useful when the main lot is busy.

Use Lakeside Drive for the Nature Center, playground and central trails, or Falls Road Light Rail for the boardwalk approach. Photograph the trail map before entering the wooded network.

The Nature Center provides the most dependable restrooms during building hours. Trail areas and Paw Point do not guarantee nearby year-round facilities.

General park, boardwalk and trail access are free. Programs may charge, and Paw Point is a code-controlled membership off-leash area with a separate annual fee.

A wheelchair-accessible boardwalk links the Falls Road Light Rail lot to the central park area. Natural trails include roots, rocks, mud and grades; use the paved central routes for the most predictable surface.

Dogs must be leashed in the general park. Paw Point is a fenced membership-only off-leash swim-and-play area; water access can close independently based on testing or conditions.

The boardwalk, Nature Center, playground and short central trails form the easiest family visit. Longer colored trails vary in surface and can become muddy after rain.

MTA Light RailLink stops at Falls Road, where a boardwalk leads directly into the park. This is one of the region's most practical transit-to-trail connections.

Check current water quality, Paw Point water access, lightning and park alerts before water-edge activities. Gates close at sunset, and natural trails can remain wet or icy after paved routes clear.

Check the park's current lightning, water-quality, water-level and air-quality panels before leaving. Wooded trails stay muddy or icy longer than paved routes, and Paw Point swimming and drinking water can close independently.

The official map lists Red at about 2.0 miles, Yellow at 1.1, Blue at 0.8 excluding its field loop, Orange and Green at 0.5 each, Purple at 0.4, White at 0.3, the paved loop at 0.5 and the Light Rail boardwalk at 0.3 miles. These are approximate GIS lengths and do not account for elevation.

Bicycles are restricted to the Red Trail, Blue Trail, Light Rail boardwalk and paved areas. Connector and hiking-only trails should be walked; obey temporary maintenance signs even when the map normally permits bicycles.

All visitors must leave park property by sunset, Paw Point users must leave that enclosure 15 minutes earlier, and the gates are locked at sunset. A vehicle locked inside cannot be retrieved until the park reopens the next morning, so build the return walk into your turnaround time.

Paw Point is a code-controlled, membership-only, one-acre fenced off-leash swim-and-play area. The park publishes separate live indicators for dog-park water access and drinking water; check both on the day of the visit because either can close while the general park remains open.
