Lotus & Water Lily Ponds

Enter through the main garden gate, stop at the Visitor Center, and follow the pond paths; early morning offers the best flowers and cooler conditions.

A free visitor lot serves the gardens. It is modest in size and can fill during lotus bloom, ranger programs, and pleasant weekend mornings.

The ponds are free during garden hours. Paths are gravel, dirt, and grass; keep children behind edges and never enter or pick from the ponds.

Use Visitor Center restrooms before entering the pond network.

Admission and parking are free.

Accessible parking and two loan wheelchairs are available. Main routes include gravel, dirt, grass, a wood boardwalk, and paved Anacostia River Trail; conditions and firmness vary.

Leashed pets are allowed outdoors under posted rules, but sensitive wetland habitat and narrow paths require close control. Pets generally cannot enter the Visitor Center.

The ponds, turtles, frogs, birds, and short boardwalk are excellent for curious children. Bring water, bug protection, and close supervision around open water.

Deanwood Metro on the Orange Line is roughly a half-mile walk. Review the pedestrian route in advance because the final neighborhood approach is less obvious than a downtown attraction.
