Chapel Shelter

Follow Riverview Drive to Chapel Ridge and use the exact Chapel pin behind the small circular drive, slightly downhill and southwest of Riverview Pool. It is not the Activities Building, Visitor Center or the present-day church outside the park.

Use legal signed spaces around Chapel Ridge and follow the permit's setup footprint. Keep the circular drive and emergency access clear; overflow setup outside the included footprint can require a separate City special-event permit.

The enclosed Chapel is permit-controlled rather than an always-open public building. Check the current reservation calendar and permit access window; the surrounding park, nearby pool and Chapel interior do not share one schedule.

The current facility listing documents indoor restrooms for permitted users, along with a kitchen, sink, stove, full-size refrigerator and electrical outlets. Do not rely on the restrooms when the building is locked or reserved by another group.

The City currently lists a $375 facility permit fee, including an alcohol permit, and a capacity of 30. Fees, dates, event rules and additional permits are time-sensitive, so confirm them in RecDesk before planning.

The 2008 rehabilitation added ramps, but this is a historic building on a sloped park ridge. Confirm current accessible parking, entry and restroom arrangements with the City before booking rather than relying on the broad park accessibility description.

Ordinary outdoor City park rules do not guarantee pets inside a reserved building or event footprint. Ask the permit office about animals and service-animal access, and keep dogs leashed outside unless in the separate signed off-leash area.

The enclosed room, covered porch, kitchen and indoor restrooms can support a small family gathering. The nearby seasonal pool is not reserved exclusively with the Chapel, so supervise children and verify pool admission and hours separately.

Do not arrive expecting a free walk-in picnic shelter. Reserve the enclosed building, verify unlock and setup times, keep activity within the permitted footprint, and obtain a separate special-event permit when the planned setup extends beyond it.

Transit serves Perrysville Avenue and streets around the park, but the Observatory, Chapel Ridge, Grand Avenue and Mairdale entrances are not interchangeable. Plan the final grade and walk to the exact destination before choosing a stop.
