Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park

Battelle Darby Creek is open April 1 through September 30 from 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and October 1 through March 31 from 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Nature Center closes earlier: 8:00 p.m. April through September and 6:00 p.m. October through March.

Parking is spread across Cedar Ridge, Indian Ridge, the Nature Center, canoe and sledding access, the skating pond, Osprey Lake and Pleasant Valley. Select the exact area and address before driving; they are not one compact complex.

Use 1775 Darby Creek Drive and 39.90346,-83.20914 for the main Cedar Ridge arrival. The Nature Center has a separate 1415 Darby Creek Drive entrance and official arrival coordinate, while canoe, lake and southern trail areas use other roads.

The operator lists restrooms at the Nature Center and developed picnic areas including Cedar Ridge, Indian Ridge and Little Darby. Remote trails, creek access points and pasture-viewing stretches can be far from facilities.

Ordinary park access, trails, Nature Center exhibits, bison viewing and non-reservable shelters are listed without an entrance charge. First-come shelters are free while occupied; reservations and some organized activities use separate fees or registration.

The Nature Center and the five-mile gravel Darby Creek Greenway are identified as accessible, and developed areas include accessible facilities. Natural creek trails, prairie paths and water-access surfaces vary and should not be assumed barrier-free.

Pets may use designated trails plus picnic areas, parking lots and roadways on a leash no longer than six feet. Keep pets away from bison fencing and wildlife; service animals have broader access.

The Nature Center's 53-foot living stream, seasonal bison viewing and nine-acre natural play area at Indian Ridge can form a family visit, but each uses a different parking area and outdoor wildlife are never guaranteed to be close.

Metro Parks publishes driving directions to several dispersed entrances and does not document fixed-route public transit to them. Check a current regional trip planner before relying on transit and arrange pickup at a named area, not the general park name.

Bison move between two enclosed pastures and may be distant or out of view. The Nature Center balcony overlooks the winter enclosure; the Darby Creek Greenway serves summer viewing. Never cross fencing, and note that designated park zones can be open to hunting in season.

Check the National Weather Service forecast near the main Cedar Ridge entrance before a prairie, creek or paddling visit. Heat, storms, wind, high water, snow and ice can affect trails and water access independently of the posted park hours.
