Dossin Great Lakes Museum

Navigate to 100 Strand Drive and the named museum building on Belle Isle's south shore. It is separate from the Aquarium/Conservatory complex and requires its own island stop.

Use the lot directly adjacent to the museum off The Strand. Parking is free once the vehicle has a valid Recreation Passport or day pass; vehicle entry can pause when the island reaches capacity.

The museum is open Wednesday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., and Sunday, 1:00-5:00 p.m. Special late openings, holidays and events can vary.

All museum bathrooms and water fountains are documented as wheelchair accessible, and baby-changing tables are available in multiple-toilet restrooms during museum hours.

Current general admission is $5 for adults and children, free for children under six and Detroit Historical Society members, with a $4-per-person household discount for five or more paid admissions. Vehicle entry still requires a Recreation Passport.

Accessible parking is north of the entrance, front-door drop-off is available, adult wheelchairs can be borrowed with ID, and the museum is stroller accessible. The William Clay Ford Pilot House is not wheelchair or stroller accessible.

Only service animals should be expected inside the museum. Michigan DNR requires ordinary pets to remain leashed outdoors and prohibits them in state park buildings.

Ship models, the hydroplane and pilot-house experience can work well for children. Baby-changing tables and sensory bags are available, but the pilot house is not stroller accessible.

The museum has a paid ticket and a much shorter schedule than Belle Isle grounds. Summer vehicle capacity controls can stop cars at the bridge, so arrive early or use transit, bicycle or pedestrian access when the island is busy.

DDOT Route 12 Conant serves the island approximately hourly and stops at the Aquarium/Conservatory complex. Confirm the current weekday or Sunday schedule and the final walk to other attractions.
