Belle Isle Aquarium

Navigate to the named Aquarium/Conservatory complex on Inselruhe Avenue, shortly after entering Belle Isle. The aquarium and conservatory are adjacent but keep different weekly schedules.

Use the attraction parking near the Aquarium/Conservatory complex. A Recreation Passport is required for motor vehicles; pedestrians, bicyclists and Route 12 riders do not need one.

The aquarium is open Thursday through Sunday, 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. It remains open during its current renovation, but construction or holiday notices can alter access.

Belle Isle Conservancy does not promise a particular aquarium restroom in its visitor information and cautions that some island bathrooms have limited accessibility. Confirm facility access before relying on an indoor restroom.

Aquarium admission is free. Driving onto Belle Isle requires a Recreation Passport; parking, food and other island activities can have separate costs.

The aquarium is open during work intended to improve site drainage, HVAC and accessibility. Construction can change the entrance route, and the Conservancy documents limitations at some island bathrooms; contact the operator for a specific accommodation.

Michigan DNR prohibits pets in park buildings except service animals. Leashed pets may use permitted outdoor park areas but should not be brought into the aquarium.

The compact fish exhibits make this a practical family stop, especially when paired with the adjacent conservatory. Verify both schedules because the conservatory is open Wednesday through Sunday while the aquarium starts Thursday.

Do not assume the aquarium follows the island's outdoor hours. It closes at 4:00 p.m., remains under renovation and can develop a wait on busy weekends; confirm the same-day notice before crossing the bridge.

DDOT Route 12 Conant serves the island approximately hourly and stops at the Aquarium/Conservatory complex. Confirm the current weekday or Sunday schedule and the final walk to other attractions.
