Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Plaza

Cross the island footbridge and follow the main route roughly one-quarter mile uphill; ramps provide plaza entry.

The free lot has more than 100 marked standard and accessible spaces but regularly fills on pleasant weekends. Parking outside marked spaces is prohibited.

The memorial is free during island hours. The approach includes gravel and grades up to roughly 12 percent; fountains may be seasonal or under maintenance.

The closest restroom is about one-third mile away on the south end of Woods Trail.

Leashed dogs are allowed on trails but not on ranger-led programs. Use a leash no longer than six feet, carry waste out, and keep pets away from wildlife and marsh water.

The short bridge and memorial can work for families, while the full swamp loop adds roots, mud, water edges, and an unrailed boardwalk. Choose the route based on conditions.
