Richmond Canal Walk

Richmond Canal Walk is a distinct mapped destination within Brown's Island; navigate to this point instead of the general park pin and check posted conditions on arrival.

Downtown surface lots and decks serve Tredegar, Canal and Cary streets. Event and construction closures change availability; use Venture Richmond's current parking list and never assume the small Belle Isle lot is available.

The Canal Walk remains available with a construction detour along Tredegar Street to Haxall Point Bridge near 10th Street. Follow posted closures rather than attempting to cross the island.

Permanent restroom and water improvements are part of the current construction project. Use open museum, event or downtown facilities rather than assuming island facilities are available.

Ordinary public riverfront access is free when open. Museums, parking, concerts, festivals and special events can charge separately.

The improvement project is adding accessible entrances, bathrooms and terraces. During construction, detours and closed paths can change step-free connections.

Brown's Island itself is closed during construction. For independently open adjacent routes, follow the posted rule at that route and do not enter fenced work areas.

The future park will add play and splash features, but they are not currently available. Use only independently open Canal Walk and bridge segments where construction signs permit.

GRTC Route 87 serves stops near 2nd Street and Brown's Island Way, and bike-share stations sit near Tredegar and the Canal Walk Turning Basin.
