Great Falls Overlook 1

Follow overlook signs from the Visitor Center area and use the rocky spur for Overlook 1; do not confuse an informal river edge with the signed viewpoint.

Parking is inside the entrance station and routinely backs up on pleasant weekends, holidays, and high-water viewing days. Arrive near opening or choose a quieter weekday; never queue or park outside designated areas.

The overlook is included with park admission. It requires uneven rock scrambling, is not wheelchair accessible, and has severe cliff and current hazards; children and leashed pets need direct control.

Use courtyard restrooms or portable toilets near the Visitor Center before approaching the overlook.

A standard seven-day entrance pass currently costs $10-$20 depending on entry type, and the annual park pass is $35. The park is cashless; verify current NPS fees and pass acceptance before arriving.

Routes near the Visitor Center, picnic area, and overlooks are mostly flat gravel. Overlooks 2 and 3 have ramped access; Overlook 1 requires negotiating rocky terrain and is not accessible to wheelchairs.

Leashed pets are welcome on trails, in parking areas, at overlooks, and in picnic areas. Use a physical leash no longer than six feet; pets may not enter the river, Visitor Center, restrooms, or ranger programs except service animals.

The overlooks are close to parking, but cliffs, fast water, and unprotected rocky edges demand constant supervision. Choose Overlooks 2 or 3 for the easiest family route and keep children beside an adult.
