Gravelly Point Plane-Spotting Lawn

Enter from northbound George Washington Memorial Parkway, park only in a marked space, and walk onto the open lawn without standing on the Mount Vernon Trail.

Use designated marked spaces only. The lot frequently fills during pleasant weekends and aviation events; weekday recreational parking is limited to six hours, and overnight parking is prohibited.

Plane spotting is free. Aircraft direction depends on wind and operations; protect hearing, keep children close, and never fly drones, kites, lasers, or other objects near the airport.

The Gravelly Point restroom is nearby, but availability can change with maintenance or closure.

Park, plane-spotting lawn, picnic area, trail, lot, and boat-ramp access are free. Commercial services and activities outside the park may charge.

The main lawn, picnic area, and paved Mount Vernon Trail connection are relatively level, but grass, curb transitions, crowding, noise, and the boat-ramp edge vary.

Pets must remain on a physical leash no longer than six feet. Remove waste, keep animals controlled around crowds and bicycles, and do not allow pets to enter the Potomac from parkway land.

The dramatic aircraft views are memorable, but the sound is extremely loud and sudden. Bring hearing protection for young or noise-sensitive visitors and supervise children near the river, road, trail, and boat ramp.
