Powell Butte Nature Park

The park is open 5:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m. Main road and lot hours are seasonal: generally 7:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. in winter, 8:00 p.m. in spring and fall, and 10:00 p.m. in summer.

The main visitor-center lot is reached from SE 162nd Avenue and closes promptly at the seasonal gate time. Secondary neighborhood trailheads have limited street access and different facilities.

For a first visit, use the main entrance and visitor center, then choose summit meadow or a named trail. Return to the lot well before the gate closes; park hours do not guarantee vehicle access.

An accessible restroom is listed at the visitor-center area. Remote trails and neighborhood entrances do not provide dependable facilities or water.

Park, trails, visitor-center access, views, and parking are free. Programs, transportation, equipment, and external services may cost.

The visitor-center area includes an accessible restroom and developed routes, but trail grade and surface vary. Use the official map to select a route appropriate for mobility needs.

Dogs are allowed only while leashed and on trail; off-leash and off-trail use are prohibited to protect wildlife and habitat.

The visitor center, summit meadow, views, wildlife, and selectable trail lengths can suit prepared families. There is no playground, and exposed meadow weather changes quickly.

Bus, biking, rideshare, and driving serve the SE Powell area, but the main visitor center sits uphill from the arterial. Confirm the complete walking route before using transit.

The main entrance may close during freezing or icy conditions, and its gate closes promptly at seasonal times. Check weather, smoke, wind, trail conditions, and sunset before committing to a long loop.

Check Portland's hourly rain and temperature, heat or smoke advisories, wind, lightning, ice, river conditions, trail closures, and current park notices. Forested trails can remain muddy or hazardous after storms, while open lawns, summits, fountains, and riverfront areas have different exposure.
