Highbanks Observation Deck

The exact pin comes from a current photograph taken from the deck. Reach it only by the moderate-to-difficult gravel Overlook Trail; the coordinate is not a parking lot or road access point.

Enter Highbanks at 9466 Columbus Pike and use the official park map for the Overlook Trail approach. River Bluff is on the opposite side of the Olentangy and is not a shortcut to this deck.

The deck follows Highbanks' seasonal park hours: 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. April through September and 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. October through March. Start early enough to finish the 4.6-mile round trip before the gate closes.

The operator does not list restrooms at the remote deck. Use developed-area facilities before beginning the hike and do not assume seasonal shelter restrooms will be open.

There is no listed admission charge for the park, Overlook Trail or observation deck. Reservable facilities and organized activities are separate.

The operator rates Overlook as a moderate-to-difficult 2.3-mile gravel hiking trail, not an ADA route. Scenic River and Sycamore are the park's listed ADA gravel alternatives.

Overlook is not listed as a pet trail. Pets are limited to designated pet trails and developed areas on a leash no longer than six feet; service animals have broader access.

The deck can suit families prepared for a hilly 4.6-mile round trip, but it is not a short playground stop. Keep children on trail and close at the elevated viewing area.

The trail crosses a state nature preserve where off-trail activity is prohibited. Expect ravines, gravel, bluff exposure and changing footing; bring water and turn around early if weather or daylight deteriorates.
