Highbanks Metro Park

Highbanks is open April 1 through September 30 from 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. and October 1 through March 31 from 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Nature Center closes earlier: 8:00 p.m. April through September and 6:00 p.m. October through March.

Parking is distributed among the main entrance, Nature Center, Big Meadows, Oak Coves and River Bluff areas. Use the exact area on the official park map; one general park pin is not a reliable destination for every trail or facility.

The official main arrival coordinate is 40.15283,-83.01837 at 9466 Columbus Pike. Use the Nature Center for exhibits, Big Meadows for play and picnics, or a named trail area for the Overlook, Dripping Rock, Scenic River or Sycamore routes.

The operator lists accessible restrooms at Big Meadows and Oak Coves. Mansion and Northern shelter restrooms are seasonal, open April 15 through November 1; building access depends on Nature Center or reservation hours.

Ordinary park access, trails, Nature Center exhibits and non-reservable shelters are listed without an entrance charge. First-come shelters are free while occupied; reservable venues and some organized activities use separate bookings and fees.

Scenic River and Sycamore are identified as ADA gravel trails, while Big Meadows, Multiuse and Oak Coves are paved. Overlook and Dripping Rock are moderate-to-difficult gravel routes; an accessible trail listing does not make every bluff, ravine or preserve surface barrier-free.

Pets are limited to designated pet trails plus picnic areas, parking lots and roadways, and must remain on a leash no longer than six feet. Overlook and Dripping Rock are not listed as pet trails; service animals have broader access.

Big Meadows has playground equipment, playfields, first-come shelters, accessible restrooms and a 15-acre natural play area. The Nature Center offers indoor exhibits, but keeps its own shorter schedule.

Metro Parks publishes driving directions to the US 23 entrance and does not document fixed-route public transit to the park. Check a current regional trip planner before relying on transit, and choose an exact internal destination before arranging a ride.

The 2.3-mile Overlook Trail is a moderate-to-difficult gravel hike through a state nature preserve to a deck about 100 feet above the Olentangy River. Off-trail activity is prohibited in the preserve, and winter closing time is two hours earlier.

Check the National Weather Service forecast for the Highbanks entrance before a bluff or ravine hike. Heat, thunderstorms, wind, snow, ice and recent rain can change trail comfort and footing even when the park remains open.
