Parking is available at the park entrance at 520 Ashe Avenue, including accessible spaces. The upper parking lot is a useful landmark because several shelters sit beside it.

General park access is free, but tickets are required for rides such as the carousel, train, pedal boats, and kiddie boats. Ride tickets are listed at $2 per person, with children under one riding free with a paying adult.

The main playground and park attractions reopened in spring 2026 while shoreline work continued near Lake Howell. Some lakeside paths and nearby areas may still have project impacts, so the playground is the more reliable family destination than the lake loop right now.

Restroom facilities are available in the park during listed operating hours, and both restroom locations include accessible facilities.

The City describes the park's sidewalks as paved and accessible to wheelchairs, scooters, and ECVs, making the main visitor areas suitable for most strollers. The pathways around Lake Howell are temporarily closed for shoreline reconstruction, so do not plan on a complete lake loop during the project.

The City does not list an outdoor splash pad at Pullen Park. Water recreation is provided at the separate indoor Pullen Aquatic Center, which has an Olympic pool, a warm-water therapy pool, and scheduled lap and recreational swimming; admission and operating hours are separate from general park access.

Leashed dogs are welcome in Raleigh parks, and handlers must remove pet waste. Pullen Park is not listed among Raleigh's designated off-leash dog parks, so keep dogs leashed and do not expect a fenced dog run.

Pullen Park has six reservable picnic shelters with tables; Shelters 1 through 6 hold roughly 30 to 100 people, and most include charcoal grills. Shelters 3, 4, and 5 are beside the upper parking lot. Shelter 4 has electrical outlets. Reservations take priority, and current rates and availability are handled through RecLink.

Yes. The school-age climbing area has one shade structure, the sand-play area has two, and the enclosed preschool playground has two. The City does not publish hour-by-hour sun coverage, so actual shade shifts during the day.

Easy-to-recognize landmarks in the amusement area include the historic carousel, the TV Land Andy and Opie statue, the children's amphitheater, and the caboose. During the Lake Howell project, the island gazebo and fountain terrace are closed.

The park and public restrooms are open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Amusement rides currently use shorter schedules and may close early for darkness, weather, maintenance, or the Lake Howell project. The aquatic center, arts center, community center, cafe, and Theatre in the Park each follow their own hours.

Call the official ride-status line at 919-996-6472 after about 10:30 a.m. Ride hours vary by season, the train closes around sunset, Kiddie Boats have limited days and hours, and weather or maintenance can change operations after the schedule is posted.

The City lists Pullen Place Cafe beside the Welcome Center, but Raleigh sought a new cafe operator in 2026, so same-day service and menu availability should be confirmed before relying on it. Pack water and a backup snack for young children or dietary needs.
