Barwell Road Community Center

Navigate to 5857 Barwell Park Drive and use the community-center arrival area. The City does not publish the main lot's capacity, so allow extra time when programs or gym events overlap. For the community garden, two ADA-accessible spaces are provided along Barwell Park Road.

The public restroom serving the playground is inside the community center, so plan around center hours: Monday-Friday 7 a.m.-9 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.-3 p.m., and Sunday 1-6 p.m. Raleigh Parks notes that center restrooms may occasionally be unavailable for maintenance.

The playground uses rubberized safety surfacing and the Panther Play 60 course uses artificial turf. The community garden has two ADA-accessible parking spaces along Barwell Park Road. The City currently lists the park and center as operating and does not post a site-wide closure. Indoor gym availability depends on scheduled programs, and center restrooms can close temporarily for maintenance. A new Chastain neighborhood trail connection is planned to begin construction in late 2026, but it is a future connection project rather than a current park closure.

GoRaleigh Route 18 serves the area. Use the stops at Barwell Road and Neals Creek Drive, official stop IDs 8091 and 8093; GoRaleigh describes the center as within a ten-minute walk. Check live arrivals and the walking route before leaving.

There are play structures and swings for ages 2-5 and 5-12 on rubberized surfaces, plus covered picnic tables. The Panther Play 60 Challenge course adds 11 climbing structures and a timed 40-yard dash on synthetic turf. The City lists the playground and challenge course as open from dawn to dusk.

The community center is open Monday-Friday 7 a.m.-9 p.m., Saturday 9 a.m.-3 p.m., and Sunday 1-6 p.m. Outdoor playgrounds are generally available dawn to dusk. Gym, fitness room, open-play, classes, rentals, fields, and holiday schedules can be shorter or reservation-dependent.

General park entry and outdoor playground use are free. The fitness room requires a daily pass or 30-day membership, and classes, room or gym rentals, and organized activities can charge. Base rental rates vary by room, with application, deposit, supervisory, and nonresident fees where applicable.

Barwell has two air-conditioned gyms and a fitness room with treadmills, bikes, ellipticals, strength equipment, and free weights. Gym access depends on the current open-play, program, league, and rental schedule; the fitness room requires a daily pass or membership.
