Star Fort

Start at the Visitor and Education Center to buy or validate admission, then follow the paved path east to the fenced historic zone and Star Fort entrance.

Use the free main visitor lot by the Visitor Center, not service roads near the fort. The walk to the historic zone is part of the visit.

The Star Fort opens at 9:00 a.m. and closes 15 minutes before the park gates. Summer closing is 4:45 p.m. weekdays and 5:45 p.m. weekends; seasonal and holiday schedules apply.

Accessible restrooms are available inside the Star Fort during historic-zone hours and at the Visitor Center. Do not count on access after the zone closes.

Admission is currently $15 per adult age 16 and older; children 15 and younger enter free. The pass is valid for seven days, the site is cashless and federal passes are accepted.

A paved route reaches the fort and most interior exhibits are accessible, but historic surfaces and individual rooms vary. Borrow a wheelchair or ask the Visitor Center about a specific route.

Pets are prohibited within the split-rail-fenced Historic Zone and Star Fort. ADA-defined service animals are permitted.

The fort, exhibits, ranger interpretation and Junior Ranger activities are the core family history experience. Keep children off walls and artifacts and allow time for the orientation film first.

The free grounds and the paid Star Fort are different experiences. Arrive early enough to buy admission and complete the interior before its earlier closing time.

MTA bus service reaches the Locust Point area, but the final walk can be substantial. Bicycles are allowed on paved park areas but not inside the historic zone.
