Moonwalk overlook at Jackson Square

The Moonwalk overlook connects the square area to the Mississippi River, steamboat views, levee steps, and the broader riverfront park.

Do not expect parking at the square. Walk, use transit or rideshare, or choose a paid French Quarter garage; metered spaces are scarce and tightly regulated.

Open daily 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. in winter and 8:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. during daylight saving time; ceremonies, maintenance, filming, and permitted events may alter access.

There are no dependable always-open public restrooms inside the small formal garden. Nearby museums, visitor facilities, and businesses have their own rules and hours.

Entering the square and viewing the exterior landscape are free. Museums, tours, parking, food, performers, portraits, and events cost separately.

The central paths and perimeter are compact, but crowds, curbs, uneven historic paving, performers, and temporary closures can complicate movement.

Leashed dogs are subject to posted park and French Quarter rules; museums, cathedral, crowds, performers, and events may not accommodate pets.

The compact garden, cathedral view, statue, artists, carriages, and river overlook are visually engaging, but there is no playground and crowds require close supervision.
