Jackson Square

Open daily 8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. in winter and 8:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. during daylight saving time; ceremonies, maintenance, filming, and permitted events may alter access.

Do not expect parking at the square. Walk, use transit or rideshare, or choose a paid French Quarter garage; metered spaces are scarce and tightly regulated.

The enclosed garden has gates on each side. Decatur Street connects toward the river; Chartres Street faces the cathedral, Cabildo, and Presbytère.

There are no dependable always-open public restrooms inside the small formal garden. Nearby museums, visitor facilities, and businesses have their own rules and hours.

Entering the square and viewing the exterior landscape are free. Museums, tours, parking, food, performers, portraits, and events cost separately.

The central paths and perimeter are compact, but crowds, curbs, uneven historic paving, performers, and temporary closures can complicate movement.

Leashed dogs are subject to posted park and French Quarter rules; museums, cathedral, crowds, performers, and events may not accommodate pets.

The compact garden, cathedral view, statue, artists, carriages, and river overlook are visually engaging, but there is no playground and crowds require close supervision.

Streetcars, buses, ferry connections, walking, biking, and rideshare serve the French Quarter; driving directly to the square is usually the least efficient choice.

Jackson Square is only the gated garden, while many experiences associated with it sit outside the fence. Gates close earlier than the surrounding French Quarter, and formal photography or events require permits.

Check New Orleans' hourly heat index, lightning, severe-storm and heavy-rain alerts, flash-flood risk, tropical weather, air quality, and current facility notices. Pavement, play equipment, levees, and exposed riverfront paths become dangerously hot, while low trails and streets may flood quickly.
