Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve

Temporarily closed August 3-18, 2026 for a sewer project. Normally open Wednesday-Sunday with entry from 6:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; beach clearance begins at 3:30 p.m. and everyone must leave by 4:00 p.m. Closed Monday and Tuesday.

The small upper lot costs $3 for nonresidents and $1 for Hawaii residents, cash only, and a reservation does not guarantee a space. Arrive before your show time and have a legal backup transportation plan.

Check in at the upper preserve for your assigned education-video time, then walk or use the paid tram down to the beach. Every visitor must watch the conservation video on each visit.

Restrooms, outdoor showers and changing support are available near the beach, with additional visitor services at the upper level. Use reef-safe practices and keep soap out of outdoor rinse showers.

Non-Hawaii residents age 13 and older pay $25 plus online fees. Hawaii residents with valid ID, qualifying active-duty military families and children 12 and under enter free; parking and tram cost separately.

An accessible tram connects the upper visitor area and beach level, and beach wheelchairs may be available. Reserve assistance and confirm same-day availability before relying on specialized equipment.

Pets are not allowed in the nature preserve. Qualified service animals are subject to conservation-area and access requirements.

Calm-looking water can still contain current, sharp reef and marine hazards. Children need close in-water supervision, properly fitted equipment and a plan that does not involve standing on coral or feeding wildlife.

Direct City bus service into the preserve is discontinued. Route 22 stops along Kalanianaole Highway above the bay, leaving a difficult roadside and grade-dependent approach; reserved transportation is often more practical.

The preserve is closed through August 18, 2026. After reopening, nonresident admission reservations normally release two days ahead at 7:00 a.m. HST; approximately 25 percent of capacity remains for walk-ins, but neither entry nor parking is guaranteed.

Check current Oahu weather, ocean conditions and operator alerts. Extreme UV, heat, heavy rain, flash flooding, high surf, wind, currents, jellyfish and water-quality notices can close trails, beaches, boats or facilities independently.
