Lake Park

Route to the Lake Park pavilion and bistro area for central paths and golf, North Point Lighthouse for the historic tower, or the Grand Staircase and Lion Bridges for signature lake views. The park stretches along Lake Drive with several access points.

Use legal spaces along open park drives and surrounding streets near your destination. Golf, bistro, lighthouse programs, weddings, and events can fill the closest spaces; never park on lawns, paths, or closed drives.

Paved walks, stairs, bridges, and natural ravine paths cross the bluff and connect overlooks, playgrounds, pavilion, and lakefront approaches. Ravine routes can be steep, wet, icy, or closed after storms.

Yes. Upper park drives and paved paths provide views and access to the pavilion, lighthouse area, and historic landscape without descending the full staircase. Ravines and older paths vary in grade and surface.

General entry, trails, bridges, staircase, playgrounds, picnic areas, public art, and overlooks are free. Lighthouse tours, golf, bistro dining, club activities, permits, and reservations charge separately.

Storm damage, ravine erosion, ice, bridge or stair repairs, golf operations, lighthouse programs, private events, and maintenance can affect individual routes. Check posted closures and contact the Lake Drive park unit for current restroom or facility status.

Dogs may use ordinary park paths and open areas on leash, but Lake Park is not a designated off-leash dog exercise area. Milwaukee County prohibits dogs in playgrounds, children's play areas, athletic facilities, golf courses, indoor pavilions, and other signed restricted areas; service-animal rules differ.

Restroom availability is tied to developed facilities and can change by season, maintenance, or event. Milwaukee County directs visitors to contact the Lake Drive park unit for current bathroom status; do not rely on the lighthouse, bistro, or golf facilities being open for a general park visit.

Yes. Lake Park has picnic areas and open lawns for ordinary personal use. Larger gatherings, alcohol, reserved space, tents, or organized activity may require a Milwaukee County permit; keep food away from playground equipment and leave historic landscape areas clean.

Wooded ravines and bluff trails provide strong shade and are especially useful on hot days, while upper lawns, sports areas, overlooks, bridges, and the lakefront can be exposed. The historic pavilion houses Lake Park Bistro and follows business or event hours; the Summer Stage and other outdoor structures are not enclosed storm shelters. During lightning, high wind, ice, or dangerous lakefront weather, leave ravines and exposed overlooks and use a confirmed-open substantial building or enclosed vehicle.

No splash pad, pool, or swimming beach is listed inside Lake Park. The historic park sits on bluffs above Lake Michigan and is designed around trails, overlooks, bridges, golf, tennis, lawn bowling, and the lighthouse. A lake view does not mean direct water access. Use Milwaukee County's current beach or pool-and-splash listings for swimming or water play, and verify the selected facility's open status before traveling.

MCTS Route 30 serves the Downer Avenue and Lake Drive area west of Lake Park, and Route 21 is useful near North Avenue at the park's south end. Choose the stop closest to the lighthouse, golf course, pavilion, playground, or ravine trail and expect a short walk into the park; check the trip planner for the active Route 30 branch.
