Observation Deck

Observation Deck is a distinct mapped destination within Great Salt Lake State Park; navigate to this point instead of the general park pin and check posted conditions on arrival.

Use the entrance station and park near the visitor center, marina, campground or Sunset Beach. Black Rock uses a separate trailhead and a walk of a little over one-quarter mile.

The park is open sunrise to sunset. Summer Visitor Center hours are 11:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 9:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. Friday-Sunday. Observation Deck may keep shorter, seasonal, staffed, reserved, road-controlled, weather-dependent or daylight-only hours; verify its current status before relying on parent hours.

Flush restrooms serve the developed park. Showers are limited to registered campers and marina slip renters using a check-in code.

Day use is $10 per vehicle up to eight people, $5 for senior vehicles, and $2 per pedestrian or bicyclist. Camping, tours, slips and permits cost separately.

The visitor center, marina and developed viewpoints have firm routes. Low water can move the shoreline far from developed access and create mud or uneven salt crust.

Leashed pets are generally allowed in outdoor areas under state-park rules. Keep them out of sensitive bird habitat, marina operations and unsafe shoreline mud.

Visitor exhibits, boats and sunset overlooks are useful with children, but the beach is not a managed swim facility. Supervise closely around docks, steep ramps, mud and salt water.

Lake levels are low and shoreline conditions change. Stage 2 fire restrictions are active; check current water, algae, wind and marina conditions before boating or walking onto exposed lakebed.

Regular transit does not provide a practical trip to the marina. Drive or arrange a confirmed round trip; mobile service and rideshare availability can vary.
