San Antonio River Walk

Downtown River Walk and Museum Reach are open 24 hours; Mission Reach is open daylight hours only. Businesses, boats, restrooms, parks, and attractions keep separate schedules.

There is no single River Walk lot. Choose a downtown garage, hotel, Museum Reach, Pearl, or Mission Reach trailhead based on the segment you intend to visit.

Select a landmark or access stair/elevator rather than navigating to the river generally. Street level and river level are different and not every crossing is accessible.

Public restroom availability varies by segment and hour; downtown visitors often rely on operating attractions, garages, visitor facilities, and businesses.

Walking the public River Walk is free. Parking, boat tours, food, museums, attractions, rentals, and events charge separately.

Many major access points include ramps or elevators, but some historic stairs, narrow sections, crowding, construction, and river-level changes require route planning.

Leashed dogs are allowed in public outdoor sections where posted rules permit; businesses, boats, events, and crowded interiors have separate policies.

Short downtown loops, boat watching, public art, Museum Reach, Pearl, and selected Mission Reach segments work well; railings do not replace close supervision at the water edge.

VIA, downtown walking, biking, rideshare, and river-adjacent trails reach many sections. Plan start and finish locations because the corridor is long.

The River Walk is not one uniform attraction. Downtown can be crowded and open all night, while Mission Reach closes at dark and may flood; check weather, river closures, construction, and exact access points.

Check San Antonio's hourly heat index, lightning, severe-storm and heavy-rain alerts, flash-flood risk, air quality, drought restrictions, and current facility notices. Pavement, play equipment, limestone, and exposed trails become dangerously hot, while river and low trail access may flood quickly.
