San Juan Nature Trail

San Juan Nature Trail is a short sunrise-to-sunset route through river and mission landscape that can close for mud, flooding, heat, or habitat work.

Free parking is available at each mission. The four sites are about 2.5 miles apart, so select Mission Concepcion, San Jose, San Juan, or Espada before driving.

San Juan Nature Trail keeps its own operating, gate, staffing, seasonal, reservation, service, flood, maintenance, or weather schedule. Check the cited official source and current San Antonio facility or river notices before leaving.

Restrooms are available at mission contact stations during operating hours; the Espada Aqueduct has no restrooms, water, or picnic facilities.

Park admission, parking, ranger programs, and the mission grounds are free; donations, store purchases, bike rentals, and external tours cost separately.

Each mission has documented accessible parking and paths, but historic thresholds, churches, gravel, nature trails, aqueduct sites, and slopes vary.

Leashed pets may use allowed outdoor park areas; they are restricted from buildings and must not disturb worship, wildlife, visitors, or historic resources.

Junior Ranger activities, ranger walks, courtyards, exhibits, acequias, farms, and short trails support family visits; children must not climb ruins or aqueducts.

VIA Route 42 serves Mission Concepcion and Mission San Jose. B-cycle and Mission Reach connect all four, while driving is simplest for a multi-site visit.
