Gateway Park

Gateway Park is open daily from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Athletic fields, Fort Woof, events, concessions, and reserved facilities can follow separate operational schedules.

Use 751 Beach Street, Fort Worth, TX 76111 for the main recreation side. Trail and mountain-bike access also uses East First Street-area trailheads, so route to the exact activity rather than the park center.

Lighted lots serve the Beach Street recreation fields, playground, shelters, Fort Woof, and other developed areas. Separate trailhead parking serves the natural and mountain-bike network; do not park on field edges or access roads.

Fort Woof is Fort Worth's first designated off-leash dog park and sits within Gateway Park. Route directly to Fort Woof and keep dogs leashed elsewhere; rain, maintenance, or turf conditions can close the enclosure.

General entry, parking, playground, trails, Fort Woof, picnic areas, and open space are free. Athletic permits, shelter reservations, organized sports, concessions, rentals, and events may charge separately.

River flooding, saturated soil, erosion, maintenance, capital projects, field events, and severe weather can close trails or recreation areas independently. Check posted barriers and Fort Worth project notices before a trail-specific visit.

Gateway Park has dense native tree stands and three picnic shelters near developed recreation areas, while sports fields, river corridors, observation areas, and portions of the trail network remain exposed. Shelters help with sun and ordinary rain but are not safe during lightning, flooding, or dangerous wind. Leave low river terrain and use an open substantial building or vehicle when severe weather approaches.

Gateway has three shelters, about 25 picnic tables, grills, restrooms, playgrounds, and wooded open space distributed across its large Beach Street and East First Street recreation areas. Reserve a pavilion or open space when exclusive use matters; private reservations need at least two weeks' notice and public events generally need 45 days. Alcohol is prohibited throughout the park, and athletic fields use a separate reservation system.

Do not assume so. Trinity Metro's current published route list does not identify Gateway Park as a named stop, and this 791-acre river park has widely separated dog-park, sports, trail, and mountain-bike entrances. Check the live Trinity Metro planner for the exact entrance before leaving; if it does not produce a safe final walk, arrange a car, bicycle connection, taxi, rideshare, or pickup rather than navigating highway and industrial approaches on foot.

No current City amenity list shows an operating splash pad or public pool at Gateway Park. An older master plan proposed a splash pad, but a proposal is not evidence that the feature was built or is open. The Trinity River, ponds, floodplain, and drainage areas should not be treated as designated swimming locations. Use a separately listed Fort Worth pool or sprayground and confirm its current seasonal hours before making a water-play trip.

Gateway Park is a large natural and recreation landscape rather than a completed public-art destination. Its clearest anchors are Fort Woof, the City's five-acre off-leash dog park; the mountain-bike trail network and trailheads; disc golf; athletic fields; playground; shelters; bridges; and an observation deck near the Trinity River corridor. A City public-art project and major master-plan improvements are still in design or development, so do not treat proposed artwork, splash pad, skate park, or destination playground as open until Fort Worth announces completion.
