Waterfront Park

City parks are closed from 11:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. unless the Parks or Recreation director orders otherwise. Fountains, the pier, City Gallery, permitted events, maintenance, and severe weather can change access independently.

There is no large dedicated visitor lot. Use legal metered street parking or a downtown public garage, then walk to the park; do not navigate expecting curbside parking beside the Pineapple Fountain.

Choose Pineapple Fountain, Vendue Wharf, the splash fountain, or City Gallery before leaving. The park is linear, and the closest cross street changes with the destination.

Do not assume a public restroom is open within every part of the park. Plan around nearby staffed facilities and verify City Gallery hours when relying on that building.

Ordinary park, pier, lawn, path, and fountain access is free. Downtown parking, permitted events, tours, food, and nearby attractions cost separately.

The principal waterfront path, fountain plazas, pier, and lawn edges use paved or firm routes. Crowds, wet fountain paving, pier transitions, and temporary event barriers can affect movement.

Leashed dogs may use ordinary outdoor areas subject to posted city rules. Keep pets out of interactive fountains and respect event, planting, and building restrictions.

The two fountains, pier swings, boats, lawns, and short paved walks make this an easy family stop, but the open harbor edge and slippery fountain surfaces require close supervision.

Downtown CARTA and DASH service reaches the historic district. Select a stop based on the fountain, pier, or gallery rather than the broad park pin.

The Pineapple Fountain and splash fountain are different destinations. Fountain operation can pause for cleaning, repairs, weather, or events, and an open park does not guarantee active water.

Check heat index, thunderstorms, coastal flooding, wind, and Charleston emergency alerts. The waterfront has limited shelter and can be affected by king tides and tropical weather.
