Stone Steps Picnic Area

Stone Steps Picnic Area is a distinct mapped destination within Mount Airy Forest; navigate to this point instead of the general park pin and check posted conditions on arrival.

Free lots serve Colerain Avenue, Trail Ridge Road, arboretum, disc golf, dog park and picnic areas. Route to the exact feature before entering.

Open daily 6:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m. The Nati disc golf shop, lodges and reservable spaces keep shorter schedules.

Several area restrooms are open when serviceable, but Colerain, Area 23, McFarlan and dog-park facilities have had repairs or closures; portable toilets may substitute.

Park, trails, arboretum, dog park and disc golf course access are free. Shop purchases, lodge and picnic reservations and events cost separately.

Developed areas include paved routes, but natural trails and bike routes vary. Everybody's Treehouse was designed for wheelchair access but is currently closed.

Leashed dogs are welcome outside the enclosed Doris Day Dog Park. Keep pets under control on shared trails.

Arboretum, picnic areas and playground are useful now; do not promise the Treehouse until its repair closure ends.

Everybody's Treehouse is closed for repairs with reopening estimated for late summer or early fall 2026. The Bradford Felter-Tanglewood Preserve trail is also closed for redesign.

Metro serves surrounding corridors, but the park's scale and separated entrances make a car or bicycle more practical.
