Fields, skate areas, pool deck, and exposed river sections can become hot. During lightning, flooding, smoke, or dangerous wind, use an open substantial building or vehicle.

Paved walks and the Truckee River shared-use path connect the ponds, rose garden, shelters, California Building, playgrounds, pool, fields, skate park, and surrounding neighborhoods. The Crooked Mile jogging route and lawn or river-edge shortcuts can be narrower, softer, or uneven, and roots, pond work, snow, ice, smoke, and flood-control construction can create detours. Stay on signed paths near the river and check current City closures before relying on a continuous route through or beyond the park.

Leashed dogs may use ordinary outdoor park paths and grounds under Reno-Washoe animal-control rules, but Idlewild is not a designated off-leash dog park. Animals other than service animals are prohibited inside the organized athletic facility, including Field 3 tournament use; pool, playground, garden, building, festival, and food-service areas may also impose signed restrictions. Use one of Reno's designated dog parks for off-leash exercise.

RTC Route 16 Idlewild directly serves Idlewild Park and its seasonal pool from downtown Reno's 4th Street Station. Use the stop closest to the pool, California Building, playground, skate park, or event area and check live arrivals because scheduled frequency can leave a meaningful wait for the return trip.
