Mouse's Tank Trail

Mouse's Tank Trail is a named route within Valley of Fire State Park; use this mapped trailhead and confirm grade, surface, closures and return distance.

Pay at an open entrance and use only designated roadside or trailhead parking. Through the end of 2026, the West Entrance is closed Monday-Thursday; use the East Entrance via State Routes 169 or 167 on those days.

Day use is open daily sunrise to sunset and the Visitor Center is generally 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. The park closes annually December 1-14 for maintenance. Mouse's Tank Trail may keep shorter, seasonal, staffed, reserved, heat-dependent or daylight-only hours; verify its current status before relying on parent hours.

Restrooms and water are available at the Visitor Center, campgrounds and selected developed stops. Trailheads do not consistently provide water.

Day use is $10 per Nevada vehicle and $15 per non-Nevada vehicle. Camping is $20 or $25 for non-Nevada vehicles, with an additional utility-hookup fee where applicable.

The Visitor Center and several roadside formations have accessible parking and short approaches. Sand, steps and natural rock make many trails inaccessible; request accommodation details before arrival.

Leashed pets are allowed on most developed routes under posted rules but are not allowed inside the Visitor Center. Heat and sandstone temperatures make summer walks dangerous.

Roadside formations and petroglyph stops can create a strong family visit without long hikes. Never touch or climb on petroglyph panels, and keep children off fragile arches and exposed ledges.

White Domes, Fire Wave/Seven Wonders, Pastel Canyon and many longer trails are closed May 15-September 30 for heat safety. Fire restrictions are active, and the West Entrance is closed Monday-Thursday during current construction.

No practical public transit reaches the park. Driving is required for most visitors, with fuel, water and offline navigation obtained before entering the remote area.
