Torrence Creek Greenway

A developed access is available near the Huntersville Gateway Park & Ride at Compass Street. The connected McDowell Creek, Torrence Creek, and Torrence Tributary system extends between neighborhood access points near Chilgrove Lane, Cedar River Road, Compass Street, and Rosewood Meadow Lane.

The Gateway Park & Ride near Compass Street is a practical access point. Other entrances are neighborhood connections with limited or no dedicated parking; use only signed public spaces and do not block residential streets.

Use the greenway during daylight and posted access-point hours. County greenways can close for flooding, storms, bridge or pavement work, utility projects, and habitat maintenance.

General greenway access is free. Transit fares, nearby private parking, programs, and unrelated facilities may charge separately.

Do not assume restrooms or water are available along the linear corridor. Plan around developed nearby parks or businesses and carry water.

The principal greenway is paved, but access ramps, road crossings, grades, bridge transitions, flood debris, and neighborhood connectors vary. Check current conditions after storms.

The County lists 3.72 miles for the connected McDowell Creek, Torrence Creek, and Torrence Tributary greenways from near Chilgrove Lane to Cedar River Road and Compass Street. A newer 0.9-mile tributary segment reaches Rosewood Meadow Lane.

Choose a short out-and-back from Compass Street for a simple family walk or ride. Supervise children at crossings, bridges, neighborhood exits, and around faster cyclists.

Leashed dogs are welcome where posted. Keep leashes short on shared paths, remove waste, and yield to cyclists, runners, and other users.

This is primarily a travel and exercise corridor. Use designated seating or nearby parks rather than gathering across the trail or on sensitive creek banks.

Creek flooding, fallen trees, bridge inspections, pavement work, utility projects, and construction can interrupt segments. After heavy rain, verify conditions and be prepared to turn around.
