Piedmont Environmental Center

1220 Penny Road, High Point, NC 27265. This is the central access for the environmental center, 6.6 miles of natural trails, and the junction of High Point and Bicentennial greenways.

Use 1220 Penny Road for the center and trail junction. The nearby Legion Lot at 1102 Penny Road is another greenway access point; do not block program or service areas.

The building and restrooms are open daily 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; trails are open sunrise to sunset. Classes, school visits, holidays, weather, and maintenance can alter access.

General center, exhibit, map, and trail access are free. Classes, camps, group programs, room use, and special events may charge or require registration.

Restrooms are inside the environmental center during its daily 9 a.m.-5 p.m. building hours. Natural trails and longer greenway sections do not have continuous facilities.

The center and developed greenway access provide accessible options, while the natural-trail network includes roots, slopes, narrow sections, and changing surfaces. Ask staff for the best route for current needs.

Six color-marked south-preserve loops and two north-preserve routes total 6.6 miles, ranging from 0.2 to 2.3 miles. Paved High Point and Bicentennial greenways also meet here.

Animal exhibits, the giant walk-on state map, classes, and short natural loops make a manageable learning visit. Choose a marked loop before starting and carry water for longer combinations.

Leashed dogs may use allowed outdoor trails under posted rules, but keep pets away from animal exhibits, indoor spaces, classes, sensitive habitat, and other visitors.

Use designated outdoor areas without blocking the center, trail junction, or program spaces. Confirm group plans with staff; the site primarily serves nature education and trail access.

Look for the environmental-center building, North Carolina Mapscape, small-animal exhibits, Bill Faver Lakeshore Trail, Deep River Trail, color-marked loops, and the two-greenway junction.

Natural trails can close or become unsuitable after storms, flooding, ice, or maintenance. Building programs and school groups may affect indoor access; check current notices before a specialized visit.
