Southern Community Park

North entrance: 100 Sumac Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27516. South entrance: 1000 Dogwood Acres Drive. Choose the entrance nearest your field, playground, dog park, shelter, court, or Fan Branch Trail destination.

Paved parking is available at the park's entrances. Parking is prohibited along Dogwood Acres Drive, so choose the correct lot and do not rely on roadside overflow during tournaments.

The park is open dawn to dusk. Its fields are not lighted, and individual courts, rentals, dog-park conditions, and scheduled activities may have separate availability.

General park, playground, trail, dog park, open courts, and picnic access are free. Fields, courts, shelters, programs, and organized uses may require reservations and fees.

Public restrooms serve the developed park and shelter area. Their proximity varies by entrance and activity node; availability can be affected by maintenance or seasonal operations.

Paved lots and the 10-foot-wide Fan Branch Trail provide developed access, and major recreation areas have paved approaches. Some grass fields, disc-golf terrain, slopes, and individual play features vary.

Fan Branch Trail is a roughly 1.62-mile paved woodland route with an ExoFit fitness course and a few steep slopes. Disc-golf fairways are separate recreation space; stay alert when crossing them.

The playground, lawns, shelters, courts, trail, and fitness stations support mixed-age visits. The dog park and sports fields can be busy, so use the entrance closest to your primary activity.

Use the designated dog park for off-leash activity and leash dogs elsewhere. Remove waste and keep pets outside playgrounds, fields, courts, shelters with food, and restricted areas.

Picnic areas and reservable shelters are available, including a larger shelter. Reserve for guaranteed group use and direct guests to the matching entrance.

Key wayfinding points are the Sumac Road north entrance, Dogwood Acres south entrance, playground, dog park, large and small shelters, multipurpose fields, basketball and pickleball courts, inline hockey rink, disc-golf course, Fan Branch Trail, and fitness circuit.

Natural-grass fields close seasonally in summer and winter and may close after rain. Reservations, maintenance, trail work, and tournaments can affect individual areas while the park remains open.
