Black Creek Greenway

Choose a trailhead for the section you plan to use. Fred G. Bond Metro Park serves the southern hub; Black Creek and Godbold Park trailheads serve the middle; Old Reedy Creek Road normally serves the north but its connecting Phase 3 segment is currently closed.

Use Bond Park for the south, Godbold Park or Black Creek Trailhead near Maynard Road for central access, and check construction before using Old Reedy Creek Road. Neighborhood entrances should not be assumed to provide public parking.

The greenway is open dawn to dusk where construction and park conditions permit. Connected parks, restrooms, dog park, boathouse, and parking lots use their own hours.

General greenway access is free. Dog-park passes, boathouse rentals, programs, and nearby facilities are separate.

Restrooms are available at Bond Park, Godbold Park, North Cary Park, and Old Reedy Creek Road Trailhead when those facilities and connecting sections are open.

The primary route is ten-foot asphalt and supports many wheelchairs and strollers, but Cary warns that some grades may be too steep for wheelchair use. Detours, road crossings, and construction routes vary.

The 7.1-mile asphalt route includes creek corridors, underpasses, road crossings, the new Cary Parkway pedestrian bridge, street-side segments, parks, lakes, and links to White Oak and Reedy Creek greenways.

Choose a short park-to-park or lake segment rather than treating the whole corridor as one outing. Bond Park, North Cary Park, and Godbold Park provide useful family anchors with facilities.

Leashed dogs are permitted on the greenway. Cary's fenced dog parks require passes and separate rules; keep dogs leashed until fully inside an authorized off-leash area.

Use tables and shelters at connected parks or Old Reedy Creek Trailhead rather than blocking the greenway. Organized trail events require approval.

Major connections include Bond Lake and boathouse, White Oak Creek Greenway hub, Battery Lake, Godbold Park, Cary Action Sports, Cary Parkway pedestrian bridge, North Cary Park, Lake Crabtree overlook, and Old Reedy Creek Road.

Phase 2 from Livingstone Drive to Weston Parkway has reopened, but Phase 3 from Weston Parkway to Old Reedy Creek Trailhead is closed for renovation and anticipated to reopen in winter 2026. Review the live detour before a through-trip.
