Fort Macon Bathhouse Beach Access

Navigate to 75 Picnic Park Drive, the bathhouse and picnic-area entrance before the historic fort. Parking is free and the developed beach-access lot has hundreds of spaces, but summer weekends can still fill.

Gate hours change by month: 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. January-February and November-December; 8 a.m.-7 p.m. March and October; 8 a.m.-8 p.m. April-May and September; and 8 a.m.-9 p.m. June-August. The historic fort itself is open daily 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The park is closed Christmas Day.

NC State Parks lists lifeguards from Memorial Day through Labor Day, as staffing permits, from 10 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Swim only in the protected area when the stand is staffed and follow flags and lifeguard directions.
