Chain of Lakes Regional Park

Developed park areas are generally open 6:00 a.m.-midnight and undeveloped areas 6:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m. Beaches, rentals, concessions, concerts, streetcar, ice rinks, and gardens keep seasonal schedules.

Pay lots and metered parkway spaces serve major beaches and Lake Harriet; neighborhood curb access varies. Warm weekends and concerts fill the closest spaces, so route to the exact lake feature or arrive by bike or transit.

This is a multi-lake regional park, not one entrance. Choose Bde Maka Ska for active water recreation, Lake Harriet for bandshell and family facilities, Lake of the Isles for scenic loops, or Cedar Lake for quieter beaches.

Restrooms, fountains, and wells are concentrated near beaches, pavilions, and developed nodes and may be seasonal. Do not expect an open facility on every loop segment.

Lakes, trails, beaches, gardens, and ordinary park use are free. Parking, rentals, food, streetcar rides, permits, and some programs cost separately.

Paved lake loops and developed beach or pavilion areas offer accessible options, but construction, winter snow, sand, older docks, trail detours, and natural shore edges vary.

Leash dogs in ordinary park areas and keep them out of guarded swimming zones, playgrounds, gardens, and posted sensitive areas. Use separately designated dog parks for off-leash activity.

Beaches, playgrounds, boats, bandshell events, gardens, paths, and the streetcar provide strong family choices. Select one lake zone and verify water quality, lifeguard, rental, and concession status.

Metro Transit buses, biking, walking, rideshare, and connected regional trails serve the lakes. Bike travel between destinations is often easier than relocating a car.

Lake Harriet bandshell and shoreline work can alter paths and facilities. Check beach water quality, algae notices, concert schedules, winter ice status, trail detours, and current construction before a feature-specific trip.

Check the Twin Cities forecast for thunderstorms, heat or air-quality alerts, wind, snow, ice, extreme cold, flooding, and current park notices. Beaches, water features, trails, ski routes, river access, concessions, and outdoor attractions can close independently as conditions change.
