Picnic Grove & Playground

Follow the campus map south of the carousel toward the Spanish Ballroom. Do not stop at the permit lot; use the Oxford Road public lot and walk across the bridge.

The main public lot off Oxford Road is free and includes lawn overflow unless posted otherwise. The upper MacArthur Boulevard lot is generally permit-only during the day; no overnight parking is allowed.

Playground and small-group picnic use are free and first-come. Tables are uncovered; supervise children, pack out trash, keep fires out, and confirm current rules before bringing a grill, canopy, or larger group.

Accessible restrooms are close by in the Arcade building and other open park buildings.

Grounds, main visitor parking, playground, picnic grove, and many ranger programs are free. Carousel rides, performances, classes, dances, aquarium admission, rentals, and special events may charge separately.

Accessible spaces are available in the main and upper lots, and NPS describes the park as wheelchair- and walker-accessible from both. Historic buildings, slopes, older surfaces, crowds, and individual performances still need destination-specific planning.

Leashed pets are allowed in outdoor park and picnic areas on a physical leash no longer than six feet. Buildings, performances, classes, crowded events, and partner attractions may restrict pets; service animals follow applicable access rules.

The carousel, playground, shaded picnic grove, children's theaters, aquarium, studios, Junior Ranger activities, and open historic campus make this a strong family destination. Confirm the chosen attraction's ticket and schedule before promising it.

Montgomery County Ride On Route 29 connects from Bethesda or Friendship Heights to the Glen Echo stop. Confirm the current timetable and return trip because evening events often continue after daytime service patterns change.
