Thomas Viaduct Viewpoint

Use the Avalon entrance at 5120 South Street and follow the official historic-site guidance west of the contact station. View from established park routes only; the tracks, bridge deck, and railroad right-of-way are not visitor access.

Park in a legal open Avalon space near the contact-station area and walk by the official park route. There is no visitor parking on the viaduct or railroad property.

Ground-level viewing follows the park's 9 a.m.-to-sunset day-use hours. The viaduct is active railroad infrastructure: never enter the tracks, climb the masonry, cross fencing, or use an apparent service route as a shortcut.

Use developed Avalon facilities before walking toward the viaduct. There is no public restroom at the structure, and winter service is limited to the restroom by Shelter 104.

Applicable Avalon day-use charges cover the park visit; there is no separate viaduct admission. Railroad property remains closed regardless of park entry payment.

Some developed Avalon facilities are mapped as accessible, but the exact ground-level viewpoint route can include trail surface and grade changes. Contact the park for the safest current viewpoint for a mobility need.

Leashed pets are allowed in Avalon but must remain well away from tracks, trains, masonry edges, and narrow trail traffic.

The structure is a useful history stop when viewed from a safe established route. Keep children beside an adult and make the active-railroad boundary the central rule of the visit.
